Mobile Music Adoption Passes Tipping Point with Revenues Set to Reach $17.5bn by 2012, Whilst Ringtones Revenues Begin Rapid Decline, according to Juniper Research
February 26, 2008 by valerio1The total value of the global mobile music market is expected to rise to more than $17.5bn by 2012, driven by rental music services and full-track downloads, according to a new report by Juniper Research. Hampshire, UK (PRWEB) February 26, 2008 — The total value of the global mobile music market is expected to rise to more than $17.5bn by 2012, driven by rental music services and full-track downloads, according to a new report by Juniper Research. With some operators now offering full-track downloads at a comparable price to iTunes, there is little justification for a ringtone retail price point that is in many cases two or even three times this level According to report author Dr Windsor Holden, "I think it's fair to say that 2007 marked the tipping point as far as mobile music adoption was concerned. Far more subscribers began downloading and subscribing to music content in developed markets, and it must be said that that the publicity surrounding the iPhone launch undoubtedly contributed to consumer awareness of mobile music services per se." However, the Juniper report also argues that current prices for ringtones are unsustainable and that the market for such services may already have peaked in a number of developed markets, arguing that competitive pricing allied to a steady migration to ad-funded and/or self-generated ringtones will lead to a gradual decline in global ringtone revenues. "With some operators now offering full-track downloads at a comparable price to iTunes, there is little justification for a ringtone retail price point that is in many cases two or even three times this level," said Holden. "Furthermore, those aggregators whose portfolios are largely dependent upon the polyphonic ringtone will be unable to survive in the medium term unless they both rethink their pricing strategies and substantially diversify their product portfolios." Other findings from the Juniper report include:
- The China/Far East region will remain the largest regional marketplace for mobile music services, accounting for around 43% of sales per annum over the next five years.
- Ringtones, which accounted for 62% of the mobile music market in 2007, will account for just 38% by 2012
- The report argues that more operators should emulate the Vodafone model and introduce similar subscription-based music rental services
Michael Campion’s New Studio Version / Remix of Barack Obama “Yes We Can Song” Puts a New Twist on Will.i.am’s Massive Viral Video Hit
February 26, 2008 by valerio1Singer/Songwriter and producer Michael Campion has recorded a new, studio version of the "Yes We Can Song". Paying homage to the original video, a project lead by two of the music and film industries' stars, rapper Will.i.am and producer Jesse Dylan, Campion has recorded two adaptations and remixes to the Yes We Can Song, which is based on Barack Obama's famous New Hampshire Primary speech. Campion's performances of the "Yes We Can Song" have reached over 30,000 views on YouTube, and his recording of the song is available for free download on his MySpace page. On his latest studio version of the Yes We Can Song, Campion once again has produced the video himself at no cost, and has written a fully arranged version of the song which features him on all instruments, and vocals. ‘);”> The Internet and inexpensive or free creative technologies such as blogs and video distribution give musicians, artists and everyday people the ability to ability to transmit their ideas to a worldwide audience immediately. This is an exciting time Albany, NY (PRWEB) February 25, 2008 — Singer/Songwriter and producer Michael Campion has recorded a new, studio version of the "Yes We Can Song". Michael Campion, a classically trained, multi-instrumentalist from Albany, NY was so moved by the song, within an hour of viewing will.i.am's video on YouTube on Saturday, February 2nd, he recorded his own version of the song in his bedroom. As the first cover of the song, it has become immediately popular on YouTube, with over 14,000 hits the first week it was online and one of the top 50 most viewed musician videos that week. The cover of the song was recorded live, with no edits and within one hour of seeing the original video. "I printed the lyrics, figured out the chord changes and hit record on my laptop." Campion comments about his improvised performance. "This is a true folk song in every sense". Taking that concept a step further, Campion created a fully arranged and produced version of the song using Apple's Logic Studio music creation program. Campion played guitar, keyboards, percussion, bass and sang on the recording. Using Apple's iPhoto, Campion used still images from Barack Obama's flickr site to create an inspirational video, which was later converted in Apple's iMovie for YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, Vimeo, Imeem, Gather, Bebo, MTV Think and other video and social networks. While not officially affiliated with the Will.i.am and Jesse Dylan project, or the Barack Obama campaign, Michael Campion is unofficially lending his talents to the support of both ventures. At the request of many YouTube viewers, Campion has also published the Guitar TAB for his version of the Yes We Can Song, which varies slightly from original. Campion adapted and added some of the chords heard in his versions of the song. "The Internet and inexpensive or free creative technologies such as blogs and video distribution give musicians, artists and everyday people the ability to ability to transmit their ideas to a worldwide audience immediately. This is an exciting time," Campion comments. Celebrities featured in the will.i.am and Jesse Dylan video include: Common, Esthero, Herbie Hancock, John Legend, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Kate Walsh, Nick Cannon, Nicole Scherzinger, Scarlett Johannson, Tatyana Ali, Tracee Ellis Ross, will.i.am. World Music Recording Market to Reach US$40.8 Billion by 2010, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.
February 25, 2008 by valerio1Entertainment is one of the fastest changing industries due to its intricate dependence on technology. Due to rapid changes, all major companies in all sectors are reviewing their activities with a view to imbibe technology and be prepared for the 'future digital'. The music recording industry is presently experiencing a discordant note in its many years of vibrant existence. The industry, which exhibited tremendous growth in the past years, is presently in the grip of piracy and losing sales. San Jose, California (PRWEB) February 25, 2008 — World Music Recording market is forecast to post a modest CAGR of 0.94% over the 2000-2010 analysis period and reach in excess of US$40.8 billion by 2010. The US, with a share estimated at 36.92% in 2006, forms the largest Music Recording market worldwide, while Asia-Pacific, with a CAGR of 1.93% over the aforementioned period, is expected to emerge as the fastest growing region. Traditional manufacturers of recording media are shifting over from magnetic media to optical discs, while many other record companies are shifting towards the online platform. Companies are also shifting their production facilities to regions with low manufacturing costs. Another interesting feature of this industry is the presence of high levels of consolidation, allowing only four companies to dominate the world market. These companies, through their regional setups, operate across all major regions of the world and have also emerged as leading players in those regions. Major companies are now repositioning themselves in the market to make the best of online ‘revolution’. Other than record labels, other companies such as optical disc and digital tape manufacturers, are also witnessing growth, with demand for discs and tape increasing from not only music, but also from other quarters such as the IT industry. Of the Big Four and various other music companies that also own CD production facilities, some of them are vertically integrated. Technology has been a dominant force in the music recording industry. The recording industry witnessed a metamorphosis since early phonographs to the current stage of portable digital players. The industry witnessed a sea of change in the last two decades. Invention of the compact disc in the 1980s pushed the music industry into a ‘digital’ overdrive. Digital technology brought forth newer opportunities to the growing industry, with other allied industries such as motion pictures and video games also making use of the technology. Along with digitalization of music came proprietary formats such as Dolby® Digital, THX®, etc. Technology now is being used to offer the ultimate experience to the end user, what with music CDs/DVDs that the person purchases, or the motion pictures they watch at multiplexes. Emergence of digital technology also put companies under pressure to offer better competitive prices to end users. Though this phenomenon was observed mostly in advanced and developed countries, markets in developing regions were weak but presented a good opportunity for future growth. Music piracy is growing rapidly leaving the legitimate music industry gasping for sales. While demand for music reached an all time high, sales have actually dropped. Much of the decrease in sales is to be blamed on increasing availability of free music through Internet and due to mass copying, especially in the Asia-Pacific and Latin American regions. Annual sales for 2004 fell by about 1.4% in terms of value, the slowest since the turn of the century. Clearly, decrease in sales reflects how commercial value of music is being devalued by way of piracy. Proliferation of illegal sites has shown that demand for online music is flourishing. Major companies covered include Universal Music Group, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, and EMI Group. Electronic Artist, Machine Boy, Releases His Second Single, ‘Building a Better Boy’ - A Plugged in Commentary on the Here and Now
February 25, 2008 by valerio1Birmingham, UK Electronic Artist Machine Boy celebrates his triumphant 'Action Figures' success with the release of the title track of his album 'Building a Better Boy'. London, UK (PRWEB) February 25, 2008 — Machine Boy's eclectic electronica has won the supoort and play of MTV2's 120 Minutes, Gill Mills's Best of MySpace Podcast, Huw Stevens' BBC Radio 1 'On the Radar' and BBC Radio's Tom Robinson's 'Introducing' show that gets 'close to the music that matters'. Topical themes of gang violence were at the root of this track. Of his latest offering (already garnering radio play and podcast inclusion), Dean Cook, Machine boy's alter ego said 'Again, it's another vocal driven swipe at our society. How do we solve problems of hatred and violence especially on our streets? The lyrics are a recipe; the ingredients for a better humanity.' The accentuation of perceived electronic coldness plus the warmth of the humanitarian lyrics bring Machine boy's music to a new level of consciousness - a plugged in commentary on the here and now. Electronic music is enjoying a fertile renaissance. It's wide remit is being welcomed from the vocally driven Miss Kittin, to the relentless 'Turning Dragon'. The experimental sound of Machine Boy sits with his contemporaries that stretch from underground hit to mainstream success. Dean is the mastermind behind the Machine Boy project. His clever imagery and animation add a sense of mystery to the music. He said 'Robots are fashionable! X-Box's Halo 3 bore a striking resemblance to Machine Boy. It's release last year was the largest single-day financial event in entertainment history.' Machine Boy is undoubtedly a Stanley Kubrick fan and it's no accident that 'Building a Better boy' release comes along at the same time as the 2008 Film Odyssey Exhibition at the Barbican - 'Inspiring!' he said. www.machineboy.co.uk www.myspace.com/machineboyuk www.myspace.com/8pr FOR FURTHER INFO PLEASE CONTACT:- Contact: joan @ 8pr.co.ukVytorin

From the salsa infused groove of "Never Lie to the Pavement" to the percussive tribal yells of "Killer Whales", through the forlorn swirl of "Venus Cried" to the hopeful awe of arena anthem "Daydreams", Pheroze's music stirs the bare soul and inspires the esoteric mind. With over ten years under his belt as a professional musician and songwriter, Pheroze has taken the production helm on Driftwood. With the exception of drums, Pheroze played all instruments on the record, including exploring his Indian roots by incorporating the esraj, sarod, and gopichand. Mixing was done under the masterful ear of Nick Cohen (Redman, Ill Nino, Brian McKnight, 40 Below Summer). Driftwood is available at iTunes.com, CDBaby.com and www.pheroze.com.
